On The 1st Day of Christmas, My Chiropractor Recommended To Me- A Bodyweight Exercise Program
This is the first in a series of posts titled, “The 12 (Healthy) Days of Christmas.” On each of the next 12 days, I will discuss a healthy Christmas gift.
I’m a big fan of what is known as ‘bodyweight exercise.’ It’s exactly what it sounds like- using your bodyweight to perform exercise. Far too many people get injured performing exercises or adhering to exercise concepts carried over from the sport of bodybuilding. Unless you’re a competitive bodybuilder, I recommend performing exercises that incorporate the whole body, not body parts. Bodybuilders will go into a gym and work ‘chest and triceps.’ There is nothing in real life where a person will perform an activity that uses ‘chest and triceps’…except for that gym workout. Functional, full-body exercise will help you stay injury free and age graciously.
So, (music please)…On the 1st day of Christmas, my chiropractor said to me, “Exercise functionally.” Hence my first healthy Christmas gift idea, a TRX® Suspension Trainer™.
Born in the U.S. Navy SEALS and developed by Fitness Anywhere®, Suspension Training® is a revolutionary method of leveraged bodyweight exercise. Easily set up the portable TRX® Suspension Trainer™ and you’re in control. Safely perform hundreds of exercises that build power, strength, flexibility, balance, mobility, and prevent injuries, all at the intensity you choose.
Perform hundreds of functional exercises with one TRX®. Use it at home, outside your hotel room – wherever you want. Perfect for all fitness levels and goals. Build strength, flexibility, core stability and metabolic conditioning.
It’s a wonderfully portable travel gym. What I really like to do is take it on trails or to parks and do the exercises outdoors.
They also make a great healthy back workout DVD as well. Although this is amazing for competitive athletes or ‘fitness buffs’, you don’t have to be a pro to benefit from this.
